Answered Prayer

Peirce lost his wallet this month. He has been quite sad about it because there was a lot of stuff in there, not to mention some money and some gift cards. He looked and looked and looked and was unable to find it. I suggested that perhaps he pray about it. He has been diligently doing that. Last night he read an article in the New Era about revelation and came to me rather sad that he hadn't received revelation about where his wallet is and that his prayer has not been answered.

Switch to this morning: I got to school and realized there was a message on my phone. I forget to check my phone at school. As a matter of fact, I so rarely use the phone that I put it on a top shelf - as a result, I don't always notice when there is a message. Today there was a message that was a few days old. It turns out someone found his wallet near where he gets off the bus. We will be going to pick it up after school.

I was a little concerned when Peirce's prayer wasn't answered. No one wants to have their child go through feeling like God isn't listening to them. Apparently, the prayer was answered quite a while ago - his mother just didn't check voice mail!

I find this whole story comforting. I've had some prayers lately that I am stewing over. This whole experience is a good reminder that God is very well aware of us and does answer our prayers. To me, every time a prayer is answered, it's like a miracle. The timing of this one is interesting. If I had answered that voice mail immediately, it wouldn't have had the same impact it had on my own life by answering it today. It is a good reminder to me.

I am grateful.

Mr and Mrs Fix It

We have been going through quite a spell lately...stuff keeps breaking.

Allen is working on the toilet and the cupboard door.

Me: With the help of YouTube, I just fixed my garbage disposal. Myself.

Was a little irritated as DH ran out the door to go HTing just after I asked him to look at it because it wasn't working.

Did.it.myself.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

May Long Weekend

We had a fun day today.

Jill went with her friend, Elizabeth, to their grandparents farm for a but of a hike and some fun. Later she had swim practice

Peirce and his friend, Riley, went to the Talisman and played on floatables in the pool.

Allen helped someone move, had a good workout and drove Jill around.

I did some housework, laundry, and some baking and drove the boys around.

A good day for us all!

Back to Walking

I am back in the game!! I got a treadmill this weekend. No more bad weather excuses. My goal is 30 km before the end of the month.

I am quite amazed at how quickly exercising every day makes such a difference. My knees have been hurting for a while now. I wondered if walking was a good idea. Interesting thing is now, on day 3, my knees don't hurt at all! Exercise is like the miracle cure.

Highway Cleanup Day

Today was a day of service. Allen got the kids up I made a good breakfast. Off they went to clean the highway. They do this service as a fundraiser for all the camps and various activities that they do in the youth program at church.

Looks like fun!!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

A radio station here decided to start an annual Cinco de Mayo tradition: chihuahua races!

Allen wanted to take Chico. I thought he was crazy. The kids were on his side. I decided to close my eyes and wave them good bye.

Apparently, he wasn't even the worst behaved chihuahua there!

There were about 10 or 12 dogs.  They all got along great. The highlight was when a black lab walked by and all the chihuahuas started barking at it--you don't belong here, go away.  Chico had a great time and the kids had an even better time.

Chico is second from the end, on the right.

I'm thinking it looks like the humans had much more fun than the dog had.
Poor Chico. He gets so stressed!

Daddy Daughter Date Night

Allen and Jill have a fabulous relationship. He does a lot for that girl. He spoils her more than I would. He brings her things she forgets (runners for gym, lunch bags left at the pool, etc.) He teases her a lot, and she gives it right back to him. Mostly, they have a lot of fun together.

I love to watch them together.

Silly!

Accepting Life

I decided a while ago to not complain about things I needed to do, no matter how dull or uninspiring they may seem. I used to hate having to make lunches. I decided to try to make lunches more interesting and tastier. I also decided to make them at night before I go to bed. Somehow, those two little things have made it more than something I complain about or endure.

I also decided that I would not complain about all the driving I have to do. There must be some advantage to the time I have in a vehicle. One of the things I do a lot of is read in the van. I know how to get perfectly comfy. I keep a blanket and a pillow in there and when I drop off my kids somewhere I often just go around the corner and hunker down for a good read. And you know what: I love it! Now waiting for my kids is a moot point. I am not just waiting. I am doing something I really love!

This was my scene this morning while I waited for Jill during seminary. I have been reading Somewhere in France (Jennifer Robson). Sitting in the van, with the rain tapping on the windows and the world getting a good cleaning, seemed just the perfect setting for the story.

Bliss!
