Day 3 of of my 51 Days of Summer

I found this great Ted.com video today. I think I will set myself a reminder to review it once a week. This is how I want to be!

Today was the first relaxing day of summer....and it was divine. A little sleep-in time, exercise,  a lot of reading, groceries and a swim practice. Who could ask for anything more?!

Sunday Bliss Day 2 of my 51 Days of Summer

Today, was Sunday, so as usual, we went to church.

With everything going on the media with Ordain Women, I really wasn't looking forward to this Sunday. I am not in the ordain women camp, but I really feel for those women who are and really have little patience for people who put them down. There is a lot of shaming and pronouncement about their foolishness and I find all that really disrespectful. I think people should be able to voice their concerns and church is the place to do it - but it doesn't feel like a very safe place to do so. Happily, it didn't come up too much and mostly people were respectful.

In sacrament meeting we had a missionary homecoming. The missionary had served in many of the same areas I was when I was on my mission. Some of his references reminded me of things from my mission days (ice cream!) and it warned my heart to listen to him.

Allen taught the combined lesson the third hour, and I thought he did a great job. I left feeling like I wanted to try to be a little better. I suppose that is what it is all about.

Tonight we visited Allen's mom in the hospital. She just had triple bypass surgery. Scary stuff!

I also stopped by someone's house to pick up some extra bedding plants they didn't need.  I'm going to try to be a gardener this summer. Wish me luck!

Today I spent some special time with Allen. My favorite part of Sunday is that Alan and I have more time to visit. We usually have a couple hours to just talk about the day and the week and our family. I love that.

Summer Fun Day 1 of 51

I started the day off in my favorite spot at The Talisman. Scriptures read and on to a great book! That was my time to fill my soul. Then I came home and rescued my wreck of a kitchen....and my home was definitely a little more beautiful as a result.

This afternoon I volunteered at the football game. I was with a bunch of Knights of Columbus volunteers this time. Interesting crowd, for sure. We were in a beer tent. Man, is that a dream stand! Easiest day ever at a football game.

Tonight we went to the NCSA awards banquet as a family. It was a great time!

Let the summer fun begin!!

I made it! Another year is in the books. It was a fabulous school year. Next year will be a new chapter. I loved the card I received from my principal, who will be moving to another school. It mentioned how next year will be a new chapter and she encouraged me to write a great one.

I will start off by making it a great summer. Tonight Allen and Jill and I went and had dinner from the food trucks in Inglewood. We walked around and talked, marvelled at how fast the river is flowing, watched a huge gaggle of geese, and in general had a great time.

All this made me think that this summer I want to do some great things. Here is what I have in mind:

- I am going to try to do something every day with someone I care about.
- I am going to spend time each day making my home a little more beautiful.
- I am going to spend time each day doing something that fills my soul. It might be reading. It might be writing. It might simply be solitude time. It might be learning.
- I am going to spend time each day focusing on becoming healthier. It is time to get some better habits in place!

I have 51 days of summer vacation. I plan to make each day count, and to count each day. Tomorrow is the beginning!

But for now, I am going to bed. I am so tired!!

Kids!

Having your kids grow up is really quite fun. I hear people long for the days when their kids were little. I liked them too, but I think it is so fun to watch them do new and exciting things.

This week Peirce went to outdoor school. He had a fabulous time and learned so much. It is great to hear his stories.

This weekend Jill and I went to Shrek at storybook theatre. At one point in the play she leaned over and said, "Mom, this is called dramatic irony. We know they're both ogres, but they don't know it yet." I love it when they teach me stuff. :)
