The Mysterious Benedict Society

This book was quite entertaining. Jill and I read it together. Jill LOVED it. I loved listening to her love it.

Here's a good summary:

Dozens of children respond to this peculiar ad in the newspaper and are then put through a series of mind-bending tests, which readers take along with them. Only four children-two boys and two girls-succeed. Their challenge: to go on a secret mission that only the most intelligent and inventive children could complete. To accomplish it they will have to go undercover at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, where the only rule is that there are no rules. But what they'll find in the hidden underground tunnels of the school is more than your average school supplies. So, if you're gifted, creative, or happen to know Morse Code, they could probably use your help.

Personally, I'd recommend it. There's a second book....we're off to get it from the library!

I so agree with this post. Someone finally said what has been needing to be said for so long!

First Day Of School

I never quite imagined I'd have two kids quite as excited about school as these two are. Peirce has been waiting his whole life to finally be in Grade One and be able to go to school all day. And Jill, well, she's just thrilled to be back at school and while we had a great year last year, she and I have both looked forward to this day with great anticipation.

The dog is our neighborhood dog-friend, Tommy. He'll be coming to our bus stop every day most likely! He's a great bus-stop friend.

September's here again,

I watch them skip to the bus.

My heart goes with them.
