Here are some excerpts from Jill's letter this week.
Hi Mom,
I saw a Facebook post that you made that said "Jill is one third done her mission" and I was so surprised by that! The time has gone by so quickly. So so quickly. The post made me think, what have I learned so far? Like if I had to make some thesis statements about what I learned on my mission, what would I say? Some of the things I wrote in my journal were:
1. You can love anyone if you get to know them well enough.
2. The temple ALWAYS helps. Doesn't matter what's going on. If things are good or bad, the temple helps.
3. God sees the efforts that we make, and no matter how small they are, he recognizes them. He turns them into something great.
4. Busy-ness doesn't come from God, the adversary uses it to get in our way.
There were a lot of things going on in Paris! In my new area. We have our district meetings in Paris. The chapel is the same ones we have zone conferences at, the one you think is so nice. I think it's kind of dingy to be honest, but there are some pretty things about it! Anyway. There's another district that meets there at the same time so we've been driving with them. Every time, we drive on the Champs Elysee and drive around the round point of the Arc de Triomphe. Sometimes I can't believe my life, other times I'm distracted by the traffic . LOL They've been setting up for the armistice celebration for more than a week! I wish we could have done more to celebrate it. Some missionaries made really good posts about it on Facebook. Maybe I'll show you some. But I bet that a lot of those places you saw are actually places I've been! Isn't it beautiful, everywhere? I bet it's even nicer on video because you can't smell that Paris smell!
I'm so happy to hear that you and Peirce and dad had a fun night together at the gym. It's funny because before my mission, I'd be so sad when I saw that you guys were having fun without me, but now when I read about your fun times together, me heart is so full 😊 I'm glad you're all doing so well! Please enjoy the gym for me! Sometimes I daydream about having an hour and a half or as much time as I want to work out. 30 minutes just does not cut it sometimes. Sometimes on p day Sœur Ethington takes a nap and I work out lol. I just realize how much of a difference it makes for my mood and my mental clarity and I think I have to take advantage when I can!
We started something I think you would like! A soup diet! We eat soup like every day these days! And cheese and bread! So I don't k ow how much of a diet it is but we're enjoying ourselves.
Are there any things that you want me to send for Christmas? I'm kind of excited to have a Christmas in France. It's normal here to not have snow all winter! I'm going to feel like I'm skipping one 😊 I'm on the committee at the visitors center for the musical evenings in December! Every Tuesday and Friday and Sunday! It's going to be so fun!
I'm trying to think if there are more things that I want to write about, but I'm not sure so let me know some questions and we'll make it more interesting next week haha!
I can't believe Carter is coming home so soon.... Can't believe it! How's Jordan life since he's been home?
Love you so much!
Can't wait to hear back!
Jill

The soeurs at the quiche-off
From Soeur Ethington's blog: After district meeting, we had a combined district meal (!!!!!!!!) with the Paris district. We've planned it for weeks, and we designed it to be a "quiche-off" competition to see which district could make the best quiches. There were breakfast quiches, bacon quiches, and vegetable quiches, but guess which one won? Mine and S. Ackroyd's incredible, inventive, phenomenally divine PIZZA QUICHE. Yes.
