School is a fun place on Valentine's Day. A few years ago we decided no more treats at school. Basically, it came down to the rule that parents should be the ones to decide what their kids eat and not be subject to all the treats others bring to school to share. This means on Valentine's Day we just share cards. Sometimes some kids add other surprises like erasers or pencils. I have been amazed at the difference though. When they used to bring candy, every single valentine came with a sugar treat. By the end of our celebration, the sugar buzz was palpable. Now that we don't have sugar treats everyone sits and reads their valentines and laughs about the jokes and just enjoys each other. It's so lovely! One thing we also did was we made electronic valentines for parents with a list of 10 things we love about them. To practice we made one about ten things we love about our school. You can listen to it here.
I will email the valentines to parents with a delay delivery set up so that they arrive the morning of Valentine's Day. Can't wait to see what they think. I have a feeling they will love it!
