11 months post stroke....what am I to see?

11 months ago Allen had his stroke. I never imagined that a year later we'd still be looking for his complete recovery. He is doing much better. Today he went to church for two hours - a far cry from coming for sacrament and then having to go home. He has been working more lately and in many ways is feeling much better, but definitely not 100%

Our lesson in RS today was on Elder Zwick's talk, Lord, Wilt thou cause my eyes to be opened. The teacher, Amber Walton, shared this picture. I thought it totally epitomized my life. I feel like there is something I'm supposed to see and learn from this stroke and the long recovery. I really have learned a lot. I have learned a lot about the brain, to start with. I've learned that I am an emotional eater (I gained 25 pounds when he first had his stroke! Ugh!) I've learned that I have to find my own happy - even when people I love so much are so unhappy. And I'm sure here is much more. I'm sure one day we'll look back and see what we were supposed to see so much better than we are now. One thing is for sure, I've learned to turn and look to Christ for comfort.

24 Years!

Jill took off to Paris for a week today:

Not many people get to visit their mission before they go on their mission!

And of course, what do I get? Pictures of dogs in Paris:

Peirce got a haircut! Handsome fellow...

Today was our 24th Anniversary. We went out to a very fancy place called The Guild:

I felt like I was in a movie. It was a really unique setting.

Allen said they have the best deviled eggs he's ever tasted...so I had to try them:

They were good. I don't know what the crunchy things were on top...but they were a great touch.

I had prairie paella...and it was really good. I didn't really love the octopus though. Do they have to keep the little suction cups on???

Allen had brisket:

Funny Ward Bulletin

Today our ward bulletin said this:

It was supposed to say this:

Image result for no one has failed who keeps trying and keeps praying

Ha! Ha! #fontmatters

What did I just eat??

Tonight Allen and I went out for dinner. We tried to go to one of our favorite places, Bridges on First. It was closed though! (Rumor has it, the owners are in a spat).

So we went across the street to another place. We didn't sit on the patio:

It was a bar that doesn't really serve meals. I told them I wanted some protein and vegetables - so this was their suggestion:

I didn't know what tartare was...but it sounded good - so I tried it. I kept thinking, "Gee, this stuff sure is red. It looks like raw meat...but it can't be raw meat. It sure looks like raw meat." and I'd tell myself to just not think about it because it tasted pretty good. It was really dark in there so I couldn't really see it well.

Then I went and googled what it was.

It is raw meat!! Ack!!!

It's My Birthday!

Another birthday! Glad I'm still having them. :)

Peirce made me a cake. He made my mom's chocolate cake...which was no small feat. We couldn't find the recipe so we had to get it from Grandma. She forgot a couple things - so he had to do some last minute fixing by adding cocoa (kind of important for chocolate cake! LOL)

Get it....I'm 51. Key candle placement shares the secret.

We went to church today and I got to play the organ. I love playing the organ!

Yesterday Jill took me for a pedicure. It was so nice!

Fun snap from Peirce:
